After graduating from Springfield College, John Beattie spent two seasons reporting for the New York Jets’ Internet and Publications department before the Longmeadow, Mass. native joined NESN. While at Springfield, Beattie played first base and outfield for the Pride.
hiiiiiiiiiiiii
John Lackey grins after leading the Los Angeles Angels to a 5-0 win over the Boston Red Sox in Game 1 of the 2009 American League Division Series. Lackey reached an agreement on a five-year contract with the Red Sox on Monday.
I think everyone is confused on what John Lackey is. He is not the guy who is going to post a 2.00 ERA and win the Cy Young. He isn’t the over powering dominant pitcher, but he is a very consistant pitcher. He will pitch around 200 innings, win around 15 games and have a era somewhere around 3.5-4.0 era. For a 3rd starter that is very, very good.
Two things happened to John Lackey yesterday that were more important than the three scoreless innings he threw against the Mets.
One was that he got his start completed an inning before torrential rains halted for an hour what turned into an 8-2 Red Sox [team stats] victory.
The Red Sox were very busy in the free agent market ultimately signing right-hander John Lackey for five years and outfielder Mike Cameron for two seasons. In this reporters opinion, two great free agent deals. But obviously there is work to be done to solidify the 2010 Opening Day line-up.
